Outer banks follows a group of teenagers who get by waiting tables, running charters, and doing other odd jobs here and there and have a very close-knit friendship. In the group we have Pope who seems to be struggling with his pre-college duties, JJ, on the other hand, is brawling with a different demon; his abusive father, making him irritable and temperamental, often causing strife within the group, Kiara who is more or less the glue that holds the group together, and finally, we have John B (Chase Stokes) who happens to be our narrator and the protagonist of the series.

He battles the profound anguish due to his father’s disappearance. Out of nowhere, they stumble upon a clue that could lead them to the truth about his father’s disappearance. Turns out that his father had been scouring for lost gold at sea. And so the friends decide to find the gold and get rich.

This series is a thrilling adventure that starts off as a harmless treasure hunt and develops into a dangerous game of survival. The mystery behind who is responsible for John B’s father’s disappearance builds up as we quickly realize that he lives among the islanders. Apart from all this, there is also a romantic course within the series, as John B falls like a rock for Sarah who happens to be in the more affluent social class.

Although the first few episodes seem like a drag (like GOT season 1), Outer Banks makes up for it in the rest of the episodes. We get to see the dynamics in friendships as loyalties are tested. We also see the depths of greed, corruption as well as the disparity between the rich and the poor. The show made its debut on April 15th on Netflix. It’s a must-watch and if you haven’t watched the trailer, press play below.
